So I’ve been missing some of my classes on Math and Computer Science intentionally for the past few days. The reason for that is that I just feel that I’m fighting for a lost cause, i.e. I’ll end up taking Math again next semester (plus my current Math teacher sucks) and my heart is not really into Computer Science.
I have now decided to take the path least taken and major in Geography instead, my first love.
As a kid, instead of playing outside all I did was look at atlases, read and/or create maps, flip through pages of encyclopedias, et al., so it’s not surprising that I have chosen Geography as my course. Never mind if I don’t get a high-paying job that being a Computer Science graduate could offer, I’d still be happy if I get to be a geographer someday. Besides, I hear that with Geography, I can enter different fields of work according to my specialization.
I can be an Environmental geographer and be part of NGOs like UNICEF and that sort. Or I could be a Physical geographer and study weather forecasting and climatology - with that I could work for major news stations behind the camera doing weather prediction which is pretty sweet (I am geek. I know.). I could be an Urban Planner or an Economic geographer or even a Human/Cultural geographer. The possibilities are endless, though working here in the Philippines may just not suffice my satisfaction. I may just have to work in other countries, wherever they may be, to satisfy my curiosity of seeing the world.
As you may have noticed, I’m pretty psyched about taking up Geography in college. Fingers crossed I’ll someday travel across the globe and that in 10 years time, I would be very happy with the choice I’ve made and that going to work wouldn’t feel like a hassle at all.
